Awareness, response strategies, and safe practices when responding to natural gas and electric emergencies.
Community Discussion: We will also be sharing best practices for backup power during outages. Come with your solutions and hurdles for a community Q&A following the PG&E presentation.
PG&E’s Barry Stallard will focus on awareness, response strategies, and safe practices for natural gas and electric emergencies. This workshop will provide important safety information to protect yourself in the event of a utility-related emergency.
Topics will include:
- Identifying important components of natural gas and electric utility infrastructure and recognizing emergency conditions.
- Using best practices to handle utility-specific emergencies and strategy considerations at scene.
- Identifying the dangers of step and touch potential and avoiding contact with energized sources.
- Responding to natural gas hazards and how to avoid dangers presented by moving natural gas and secondary ignition sources.
- Responding to electrical hazards and how to avoid dangers presented by down power lines, car-pole accidents, and other energized sources.
- Reviewing PG&E’s updated natural gas emergency response plans and response checklists.
Barry Stallard served for more than 30 years with San Jose Fire Department, ultimately as Battalion Chief. He was then hired by PGE as a member of the Safety and Infrastructure Protection Team, eventually promoted to the Public Safety Specialist team.
